Making shots does not always mean your form is good, and missing does not always mean it is bad. Here are five ways to tell.
1. Look at the results over many shots
One night of misses means little. Track 20 to 50 shots from the same spot.
2. Film a side view
Prop your phone at hip height, about 8 to 12 feet away. Watch the shot at slow speed.
3. Use a form checklist
- Feet shoulder width, balanced
- Knees bend and drive up
- Elbow under the ball, pointing at the rim
- Arm fully extends
- Wrist snaps, fingers finish toward the rim
4. Ask someone you trust
A coach or teammate can point out what you cannot see. Ask for one thing to fix, not ten.
5. Score your shot
A number makes progress easy to see. HoopArea scores each filmed shot out of 10 and measures elbow extension, knee bend, wrist snap and arm alignment.
What a good form looks like
It looks repeatable. Your shot looks the same on shot 1 and shot 20, and your misses are small ones, short or long, not wild.
Next step
Pick one thing to fix this week, then film again and compare.
